Poreless Skin IS a Myth
We all love the idea of poreless skin, especially as pore size can vary. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as poreless skin, and clogged pores can be frustrating. Luckily there are easy ways to maintain healthy pores, and it is important to discuss the many factors that clog skin pores.
First, what are pores? Pores are tiny openings in our skin that are home to hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Makeup, dry skin, oil, sweat and environmental factors can all cause pores to become clogged. They are very common, and typically present on the face, although pores can become clogged and appear anywhere on the body. Clogged pores are seen most in those with oily skin, which often lead to breakouts. Similarly to those who have acne prone skin, oily skin occurs mostly in young adults. If you are someone who struggles with oily skin and breakouts, there is a good chance there are factors you are unaware of causing the breakouts.
To start, oil, dirt, and debris can get trapped in your pores and lead to clogging. As sweat and oil builds up it can lead to imperfect looking skin. Makeup residue is another culprit of causing pore congestion. When removing your makeup it is best to double cleanse,, first with an oil based cleanser to remove all of your makeup. Many people are surprised how much makeup residue is left after just one face cleanse. Though Cleansing your skin is crucial for avoiding the buildup of dirt and oil, cleansing too frequently may strip your skin of its natural oils, causing your skin to overcompensate. Washing your skin with an oil based cleanser once in the morning and once at night is recommended to avoid dry skin. Lastly, it is key to avoid comedogenic ingredients that may clog pores. If you are someone who experiences frequent breakouts, it is essential to read the ingredients listed on toothpaste, makeup, and even hair care products as those can contribute to clogged pores as well.
Though pores are unavoidable, they are completely manageable. Whether it be quality skincare products that minimize the size of pores, ensuring your makeup is completely removed before going to sleep, or just starting to double cleanse, there are many ways you can easily improve the condition of your pores.
