Preventive Aging By the Decade

We all want to preserve youthful, supple skin for as long as possible. From the beginning of time, women have wanted to reverse the visible signs of aging of their skin. It is important to take care of the skin beginning at a young age to help slow the natural process of aging. Here is an outline of anti-aging skin treatments that may help too slow the process as we progress through the decades.

20’s - Not yet concerned about crows feet, hyperpigmentation, and sagging skin, women in their 20’s can still take initiative in preventative aging. Some treatments include:

30’s - Beginning in your 30’s, you may start to spot a few fine lines and wrinkles, as well as irregular pigmentation based on the amount of time spent in the sun. During your 30’s, laser treatments can begin once a year.

  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or Fraxel 1-2 times per year

  • Continuing with daily SPF and retinol cream at night

  • Possibly dermal filler can be injected to restore lost volume

  • Botox anti-wrinkle injections 1-2 times a year (if visible lines are showing)

  • Microneedling with PRP treatments

  • Microcurrent Facials for muscle stimulation (to slow facial sagging)

  • This is also a time to upgrade your skincare routine and products

40’s - This is when laser resurfacing treatments (in my opinion) are a non-negotiable. You may be seeing more noticeable signs of aging and stress in your 40’s, especially as you begin to approach your 50’s. I recommend:

  • Continuing daily SPF and retinol cream at night

  • IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), Co2 Laser Resurfacing, or Fraxel 2 times per year

  • PRP injections

  • Dermal filler as needed

  • Botox 2-3 times a year

  • Microcurrent Facials for muscle stimulation (to slow facial sagging)

  • This is another time to upgrade your skincare routine and products

50’s - The big 5-0 is certainly a reason to celebrate, however you may begin to see accelerated aging in this decade due to a rapid change in hormones. To combat the sudden skin changes in your 50’s treatments can include:

  • Co2 Laser Resurfacing, or Fraxel Laser to full face and neck 2 times per year

  • IPL and Excel V for broken vessels on the face/nose 1-2 times per year (as needed)

  • IPL to treat the brown spots on hands and chest area 1-2 times per year (as needed)

  • Upgrading your skin care, yet again

  • Continuing daily SPF and retinol cream at night

  • Dermal Filler twice a year as needed

  • Botox 2-3 times a year

60’s - In your 60’s the skin may become more delicate. To keep your skin looking its best consider the following for the upcoming decade:

  • Co2 Laser Resurfacing, or Fraxel Laser to full face and neck 2 times per year

  • IPL and Excel V for broken vessels on the face/nose 1-2 times per year (as needed)

  • IPL to treat the brown spots on hands

  • No sun and lots of SPF

  • Continue upgraded skin care, think peptides and growth factors

  • Dermal filler 2 times a year (as needed)

  • Botox 2 times a year (as needed)

  • And possibly a visit to your plastic surgeon

70’s, 80’s, and 90’s - Anti-aging does not stop at 60, keep up with the maintenance treatments and you will continue looking fabulous.

  • Mild Laser resurfacing 1 time per year

  • IPL and Excel V for broken vessels on the face and nose 1 time per year (as needed)

  • IPL to treat the brown spots on hands 1 time per year (as needed)

  • Removal of Seborrheic Keratosis and benign lesions on the face, neck, and chest

  • Continue moisture rich skincare

  • No sun and lots of SPF

  • Lymphatic facial massage + LED light therapy

  • Dermal filler 2 times per year (as needed)

  • Botox 2 times a year or (as needed)

  • And possibly a visit to your plastic surgeon
